New Monthly 5 Book Review

"The Unseeing" by Anna Mazzola

The fourth and final review of today is for "The Unseeing" by Anna Mazzola.

There is something to be said for reading a book on the bus on the way to work and as the voice on the bus announces the next stop, you just happen to reading about the body parts found along that same road...

Cue what happened to me whilst reading "The Unseeing". I gather from what I have read that this book is based on a true life case that occurred around the area I am currently living in London. I like the whole Fiction based on Fact thing, makes for a more interesting read.

I'm not sure however, that the title of the book quite fits with the story within, but there is something to think about with regard to the possible meaning; as in someone being blind to another's faults perhaps.

But I digress. This book promises to be a lot of things, and while it is a good read, and does make you wonder what is going on with the characters, I can't help but feel like there's something missing, I just can't quite put my finger on what.

The slight twist ending when the truth does emerge is a little so-so and while in theory could be the explanation for the character's actions, I'm not entirely sure it fits properly. What is highlighted is the dreadful conditions of the prisons of the era and the way women were treated depending on the crime they were accused of committing.

This book is one I finished with a sigh of disappointment if I'm honest. As I said, there were high hopes for this one and I can't 100% say it lived up to the promises it made. That being said, its a good book to read if you like fiction based on fact like this one.

For me, another 2 book score I'm afraid.

Enjoy and as always, Keep Reading! x
